Hello,
I hope you’re well and enjoying the summer.
The weather is good here and the humidity has given way to something a little more pleasant. There’s been a heatwave in the UK and I'm imagining myself taking a dip in the Solent with my old sea swimming group, the Shack Sharks. Of course, it was the cold wintery days I remember more, with wetsuit and hat, but miss the sea and the taste of saltwater.
This week will feel extra-curricular because I really am just keeping a few plates spinning while trying to take some time for family and friends.
A billionaire's trip to space is being contrasted with the philanthropy of his ex-wife.
Roxanne Gay has some ideas about why people are so awful on the internet.
I have been updating a few entries in Wikipedia and adding references for articles on VR and Immersion. I recently read that women account for only 19% of Wikipedia editors but are more likely to have their entries removed, that's a systemic bias that threatens the integrity of the content, right there.
Not a great start to the USWNT's Olympic campaign, but no need to panic - can anyone tell me why Megan Rapino isn't playing?
This looks like it could be fun…and on point.
I'm still getting a daily dose of Letters from an American, Professor Heather Cox Richardson's brilliant political history newsletter. I heard rumors that it might end soon, surely it must be challenging to write so frequently in such depth, so I'm going to hope that it is easier for her than many so that she will take a break but somehow keep publishing.
Google Maps has an incognito mode. no, me neither.
A reminder of the history of the Olympics with these incredible photos.
Would love to work in an office like this, where Mappa Studios create anime (via Spoon & Tomago)
Here's some footage of me swimming, I was going to include music but love the watery sounds from the GoPro attached to my wrist. I miss it (I'm saying it again), so we are planning a long-distance trip to the sea.
See you next week.
